Litvak to perform in NYC

Erin McPhee, North Shore News

Sunday, September 28, 2008

Elly Litvak will be performing her one-woman play Now Who's Crazy Now? at Performing the World 2008, an international conference and festival in New York City, Oct. 2-5.

Litvak has worked with North Shore community members for more than 12 years as the co-ordinator of volunteer access at North Shore Community Resources, a supported program for people with mental illness. She's also the co-ordinator of the peer support training program at Community Psychiatric Services.

According to Litvak, Performing the World 2008 is co-hosted by the East Side Institute for Group and Short Term Psychotherapy and the All Stars Project, both of which are based in New York City.

In Now Who's Crazy Now? Litvak chronicles her experiences living with and recovering from a serious mental illness. She wrote it to entertain as well as educate and it includes the message that there's hope for recovery for everyone.

The conference is expected to attract more than 400 grassroots practitioners, activists, scholars and researchers from around the world. Performances and presentations will address community, organizational and business development, education, mental health, medicine, poverty, violence, drugs, HIV/AIDS, healing/personal growth and theatre/improvisation.
